The one I saw didn't have the rear sight. It had a broken beech front sight. Otherwise it was in great condition. The guy was asking $2700.

Rem Hepburn and Steven's 44 1/2
I saw two of my dream guns at the Manchester Ctr Gunshow in Manchester, VT. A Remington No.3 Hepburn and a Stevens 44 1/2 Shuetzen rifle, both in 32-40. Two uncommon guns in a shootable caliber, beautiful guns.
Does anyone here own one of either?

Sounds like hysteria to me. I have some immediate questions: 1) Why would the FBI go to a local gunstore to get information about gunpowder? They already know everything about it. 2) FBI? Not ATF? Suspicious to me. Of course, with the recent bombings, I am sure everyone is running around looking for...

Re: How is the front site mounted on 1892 SRC?
Okay, brazing makes more sense than either silver soldering, which would come undone during bluing, or welding, which would distort the barrel. They were high temp silver soldered. Which isn't affected by bluing. Unlike soft solder like most of the SXS shotguns. Soft solder doesn't take to hot blue...

Re: Anyone do color hardening or annealing?
A good pile of charcoal with the part on top will anneal it. Light the charcoal and let it burn out and cool. Usually about twelve hours. I've used this technique before and it works well. Its easy to check afterwards, just run a file along a spot to see it skates or digs in. I considered that, eve...

Re: How is the front site mounted on 1892 SRC?
First, are we discussing an original Winchester model 1892 or a copy? On the originals made between 1892 and 1937 or so, they were installed in one of two ways: The early rifles up until about 1916 they were dovetailed in place with a very shallow dovetail (.050), silver brazed and final machined/p...

I believe they were done a couple ways. Some were silver brazed (soldered) on, some were set in a small dovetail, peened into place then silver brazed in place (and in NO way shape or form to be considered removable like a normal dovetail, it makes them nearly as permanent as being machined from th...

. AFAIK, the Model 92 sight base is welded to the barrel. I have no experience with the Springfield. . This makes me wonder all kinds of things. You can turn the barrel after its attached, so it would have had to have been done after the barrel was initially shaped. It probably was done before rifl...
