Here in Florida where I live during most of the year, a short carbine that can stand up to frequent afternoon tropical showers is ideal. We hunt wild pigs year round.
This is my Mossberg model 464 that I have grown quite fond of for its accuracy and handling. 30-30 is a keeper!

No experience with this cartridge but my hunting buddy has a TC Contender in 357 Herret which is a shortened 30-30 case with neck opened up to 35 caliber. He loads the Speer 180 grain bullet and has toppled several dozen deer with this amazing handgun. We have hunted together since the 1970's.

Remington model 31 is another great shotgun that went out of their catalog due to production costs. My brother has one in 16 gauge with an improved cylinder choke and he rarely misses upland game. The receiver is a 20 gauge frame so it's lightweight and swings/points like a champ.

I feel that a Bowie knife belongs in every sportsman's gear bag. Mine is a Buck model 119 with a custom sheath. I do not use it very much as I prefer a folding hunter for dressing and skinning deer.
