the lower hole is, indeed, for seeing if there are cartridges left in the magazine. the upper is for pressure relief and 'loaded chamber'... :D

i put electricians tape over the upper to keep crud out of it...if a round bursts, it will still work.

my largest concern about rabbits is they draw larger predators; coyote, big cats...

dogs are normally a deterrent for rabbits.

nothing wrong with bear recurves! i still have my 45X Bear Kodiak hunter i bought in '79 or '80. any big game in north america may be taken with 50# (with the exception of Kodiak/brown and polar bears) recurve/longbow. the heaviest recurve i ever owned/shot was 56#. i had to reduce poundage to 40# d...

my grandma had an electric motor driven one with the manual wringer...i spent more than a few times cranking it... :wink: :D she also did a lot of laundry in a #2 wash tub and used a scrub board...YIKES! what would the women of today say about that? :roll: she was born in OK on a horse ranch in 1900...

you say your dimensions are longer and wider. longer equals less poundage. spike one inch usually nets 10# gain are you going to back the handle? might be a good idea. pyramid/board bows can be weak at the handle/limb junctions. if you do back it, do it before tillering otherwise the handle may pop ...

i've lived on a ranch for the last 14 years,

marlin 39 and hi powered PCP air rifles are all i've needed so far...if "push comes to shove", though, rem 870 stoked with 00 or slugs is available. :? :wink:

i had only one Ruger Mini 14 and i sold it as i became frustrated at the accuracy issue i had with it. it functioned flawlessly and proved to be very reliable but i could not keep it within an 8" target at 100 yards... M1 Carbine? never owned one...but i did get issued one compliments of the US...
