Most of the people I've heard bragging on them impressed me as being occasional shooters at best. I don't see any real advantage, accuracy wise. The only advantage I see is that the flex tip might make them open up better.

AT&T and Verizon both offer wireless netbooks that use cellular service. They're about $300 with a 2 year contract, but I think they'd be handy. Disk drives are peripheral.

Showman. A real cowboy would never carry that much ammo on his belt, and if he did, not on such a narrow belt, as it'd make you sore. As for wear on the chaps, that isn't that big of a deal. Guys that only ride an hour every coupla days can put that much wear on a pair of chaps.

Unfortunately many states now have made it a felony to shoot stray dogs and cats. MO and KS are included in that list. We did it all the time growing up. Especially the packs of wild dogs that were 3 or more generations wild. I doubt if any of the states have a solution to this problem, just expect...

PMC sells lead bullet ammo for .30-30's, too. I've seen people try to run those in Marlins and they start flinging bullets out in all sorts of directions.

I haven't hit any game with the 30-30, but at the range I thought the 170's dropped quite a bit (Remington factory) compared to the 150's. The 170's reminded me of 35 Rem. I could tell you the stuff I do with open sighted leverguns, but you'd probably not believe me. I WILL tell ya though, that 200 + yard shots are entirely doable with a Henry H001 .22 LR. Mine will keep the shots in a gopher hole at that distance.

When it came out, the .30-30 was lauded as the new "super magnum" of it's day; when the .357 came out, shooters were warned that they had better hold on tight, else they'd "break their hand". Both are now considered anemic by people who might shoot two game animals in their life....

I had one. It worked just fine, but I sold it. I just didn't care for it. I could hear it rattle when I carried it on my hip while walking at night. That said, it shot fine, didn't hang up, and was fairly accurate. It balanced about like a *******' bent T-post, though. I miss my Sig 220.

There are differences in the length of 45/70 and 50/110 (2.1"/2.4"). This does require some internal action work. All of the family of 1886 cartridges used the same rim diameter, .608 to .610, so the bolt face is OK as is. The 50/110 case length is approximately the same as the 40/82 and ...

The Blackhawk WILL work, but a the 3 1/2" Vaquero works better. I especially like my Sheriff's model; nicest carrying gun I own.

I would guess it would depend on wether you have that hollow above your belt to tuck that piece into. There are inside waistband holsters available. Me, I haven't seen that hollow place for probably 30yrs now!!! You can still see it if you set a mirror on the floor and prop it up against the wall! :D
